The Potomac Dogwoods chapter of the Good Sam Club was founded in 1975 and we currently have about 20 families on our membership roles. Our group has singles and families ranging from currently working with children, preteen through teens to retirees with older children who occasionally join in or grandchildren. Our rigs also run the spectrum from Class A's to travel trailers and everything in between. The vast majority of our members reside in the very broadly phrased area referred to as "Northern Virginia".
We schedule our outings 1 per month from March/April through November. We try and keep our distances to within a 2 to 2-1/2 hour drive from NOVA and generally include VA, MD and PA. As you can imagine with this kind of radius we have visited most of our outing locations multiple times over the more than 40 years of our existence and we can proudly say that we have established very good relationships with the campground owners. We are very fortunate in this driving area to have a multitude of campgrounds to utilize.
While campgrounds come & go and change with the times the one consistence throughout our history is the fellowship and camaraderie of our members and their guests. Our weekends often consist of multiple opportunities for alone or down time and also group activities such as meals. We will very often produce a list of local attractions and events that can be enjoyed as individuals or with a group.
Our chapter dues are $20 a year and we have no minimum requirements for attendance. You are certainly welcome to camp with us as often as you like before committing to the $20. The money allows you to become a member which means you can vote on issues at our monthly meetings and receive our monthly newsletter.
From the Archives: The oldest Potomac Dogwoods Newsletters
Even though the Dogwoods were founded in 1975, the oldest newsletters that we have on record are from 1984. You can see what the group was up to at that time. Please note that every other page is blank. Unfortunately, that's the way that we received this file:
